Proud To Wear The Uniform Of United States Marine

Marine Staff Sargeant This is how I always remember my uncle Jack, as sketched here by his friend, the artist and former marine Bob Koherr. This pen and ink drawing of Staff Sergeant Rice was one of his mother's greatest treasures and now hangs proudly in my office at home. He was so proud to wear the uniform of a United States Marine – and you can see that in his picture. This particular sketch was done to accompany the article; Hotel War Memories – With Reservations, written by Jack Rice for the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Hotel War Memories - With ReservationsThis was a story about a fictional character but set in an accurate historical period that Jack did about a character named Stonedwall Jackson, a marine reminiscing about his career in the Corps in the 1940's. He was a regular at the El Cortez Hotel bar in San Diego "firing for record in the saloon 16 stories up."

Watch for the full article in a separate post. An exclusive story by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Jack Rice (Staff Sgt USMC  deceased)  – and never before published on the Internet.
